Reception
This week our Reception children celebrated science week by setting up their own investigation to answer the question: Do plants need light to grow? We carried out a fair test experiment and planted our own sunflower seed. We also have been observing the eggs hatching and enjoying seeing the ducklings coming out of their shells.
Year 1
For Science Week, the children in Year 1 were given the question "Why did Dinosaurs go extinct?" and they worked in groups using books and laptops to research and write about what they found out. The children also took part in the investigation 'Get Set Jellies!'. They made plain jelly and jelly with apple pieces inside to see how long it would take for them to set. They had a great time taking part in this fun and yummy investigation!
Year 3
The theme of this year’s Science Week is ‘Time’. The children had an opportunity to investigate ‘time’ using water clocks. Water clocks are the oldest of time-keeping devices. The children created water clocks using empty plastic bottles and observed the amount of water in and out of these devices to measure and record elapsed time.
For their second project, they created innovative farms of the future using empty cartons. The children learnt about modern farming innovations using robotics and drones and thought of ideas to include in their projects.
Year 4 and Year 6
This week, Year 4 and 6 have had the opportunity to take part in a rail project that has been funded by HS2, where they were able to build their own model trains. The children really enjoyed this project and were able to show the value of co-operation when working as mixed groups.
