Geography
Intent for Geography:
At Charville Academy we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it. Through the concepts of place, space and scale, teaching equips pupils with an understanding of knowledge about places, people, resources and environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. We encourage our children to explore a wide range of geographical concepts through investigations, map work, fieldwork, critical thinking and active discussion. Through local fieldwork and visits we want our children to be active citizens by making decisions and creating actions to improve their local environment and ultimately really show they care about and take pride in where they live. We provide opportunities for our children to explore issues facing our planet and their role in creating a more sustainable future. We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and a sense about the world and its people, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives, equipping them well for further education and beyond.
